Life Highlights

OBITUARY
George Howard Terrell was born in Atlanta, Georgia on February 28, 1947, to
David C. Terrell and Monteen Strickland Terrell. He was the sixth of seven
children. As a boy, George attended Bowen United Methodist Church, where he
participated in Sunday school, the Methodist Youth Fellowship, and the usher
board. George attended Drexel Catholic High School, where he served as co-
editor of the school paper, president of the student council, and participated in
other school activities. There, he also accumulated many life-long friends. He
graduated from Drexel in 1965 and had the honor of serving as his class
salutatorian.

After high school graduation, he matriculated to Howard University, in
Washington DC. In 1968, while in the process of transferring to a school in the
Atlanta area, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. There he developed skills in
electronics and communications. George received an honorable discharge from
the U.S. Army in 1971. Upon his return to Atlanta, he was employed by AT&T and
received his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Georgia State
University.

In 1972, he met and married Deitre (Penny) Moore. From this union two children,
Jabari and Aisha, were born.  After marriage George and Deitre (Penny) became members of Ben Hill United Methodist Church, where he served as Co-Chair of Council on Ministries.

George began teaching Sunday school and attending bible studies. In 1986, both of
George’s parents died within two months of each other. As a result of this, George developed a new desire for a closer walk with God. His thirst for biblical knowledge could not be quenched.

He began teaching a bible study at AT&T and, in 1989, Joy Unspeakable Christian
Bookstore opened. He ministered to customers and studied regularly. Using
customers, God created a path into the ministry, and he became an ordained minister at Christ Community Church under Rev. John Nash.  In December 1996, he founded and became the pastor of Crossroads Christian Center. Pastor George implemented many community outreach activities including Safehouse Bible Club, picnics, and annual Vacation Bible School. In 2017, God led Pastor George in a different direction. He went on to support other ministries.

Pastor George has always been a charismatic person. People young and old
would be drawn to his personality and he could befriend anyone. He was a
person of integrity; he not only taught God’s Word, but he lived it. He knew how
to be caring yet firm, strong yet humble, and unwavering yet timely. Pastor
George radiated God’s Love in all that he did. He was a man of prayer and
operated with Godly wisdom.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Deitre Terrell; children, Jabari Lateef
Terrell (Latoya) of Greensboro, NC and Aisha Terrell Willis (Christopher) of
Douglasville, GA; grandchildren, DaVonn, Chloe, Chance, Ariel, Cayla, and Jordan;
siblings, Catherine Goolsby, David C. Terrell, Jr. (Glinda), and Wayne C. Terrell
(Dale); and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He is
preceded in death by his sisters: Carolyn Elaine Pitts, Emma Jean Bryant, and
Jacqueline Map as well as grandson, Dionte Terrell.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
