Celebration of Life for Walter Michael Aaron

Life Highlights
In the late spring of 1954 in Macon, Georgia, Walter Michael Aaron Sr. was born to the
union of Mark Frank and Sedora Thompson Aaron on June 8. The third child of five children, he was a happy, playful and inquisitive baby. His curiosity wondered what would happen if he put a broom in the fireplace resulting in a fire in the family home. As a result, the young family migrated to Cleveland, Ohio where he would spend his childhood, adolescent and early young adult life.
As a toddler, he suffered from encephalitis, a condition that led doctors to believe that he would never walk again. After an extended stay in the hospital he was able to return home. Decades later the doctor that treated him said that he was a case for the medical books because of his miraculous recovery.
He joined the Open Door Baptist Church in Cleveland,Ohio at a young age. Early on, he exhibited an entrepreneurial spirit by acquiring his big brother’s and a neighbors paper route.
He became quite the fledgling businessman. He had the heart of a superhero. Whether it was coming to the aid of a little boy crying from being bullied for the money he’d collected for selling candy or coming to the rescue of a damsel in distress, Michael rose to the occasion and made a difference.
Growing up he loved his family and it showed. He was the little and big brother. Not just chronologically but also in stature. He respected and admired his big brother Sammy. The relationship he had with his sister, Janice was extraordinary beyond measure. Being a big brother to Cynthia (Snoo) and Sabrina was very special.
In 1972 he graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Cleveland, Ohio. In the summer of 1973 he moved to Farmingdale, New York where he resided with his Aunt Lil who was a senior Mother at Hollywood Baptist Church of Christ pastored by the late Dr. Andy C. Lewter, Sr. where he became a member. While a member for over a decade he was the first Director of The Hour of Power video ministry. He became the administrator of the Hollywood Adult Home. For the first time in the establishment's history, the Adult Home had zero violations by state inspections and he brought it to full capacity. In concert with the late Rev. Ira James of Institutional Baptist Church, a local Amityville pastor, he established the food pantry for Hollywood Baptist church for the benefit of the community.
He enrolled at Dowling College in Oakdale, New York in 1974, where he played basketball. He then matriculated to Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia and continued as a basketball walk-on while majoring in physical education.
In the late fall of 1973 he met Rosalyn Ruth Lewter, his wife of 42 years. God blessed their union with six children and 13 grandchildren. His unique, caring and loving way with his children exemplified his love for young people. His desire to make a difference with young people led him to a nearly three decade tenure with the Western Suffolk Board of Cooperative Services (B.O.C.E.S). There he was an in-school suspension teacher at Washington Learning Center and James E. Allen Learning Center.
Walter excelled as head coach of the girls varsity basketball teams at Kellenberg Memorial High School, Uniondale, N.Y, and St. Anthony High School, Melville, N. Y. He also coached the AAU Silver Bullets Road team, taking them to a New York State Championship in Glen Falls New York.
In the early morning hours of Friday, June 26, 2020, Walter Michael Aaron, Sr., was summoned to go home to be with Lord. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew him. Rest well our hero.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY FOR THE LIFE OF OUR BELOVED
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
